These are the roads in Huntsville that have seen the largest pedestrian safety improvements

Huntsville has slowly invested more in making streets safer.

Huntsville changing dangerous roads to becoming safer for cyclist and pedestrian traffic isn’t novel, its something the city has already begun doing. Narrowing roads to slow traffic, adding “refuge islands“, adding wide sidewalks, and creating physical barriers to protect pedestrians and cyclists are all examples of things the city has done to improve pedestrian safety. These are changes that are proven to be possible and proven to reduce injury and deaths. At minimum, they create a more pleasant space to walk and enjoy the city.

Below is a gallery of roads in Huntsville that were originally designed purely for car throughput that were recently redesigned to improve safety. Hopefully this inspires you with a new vision for what the future of Huntsville can look like.

If there are other streets or sidewalks you think saw big improvements over the past 10 years, comment below!
