As the new year comes around, we have new priorities and goals for the organization. 2025 was our debut. We launched a website, became officially recognized by our parent organization, hosted 2 very successful public meetings (around 40 total unique people between the two meetings), and got our newsletter subscriber count to over 60.
For 2026, there are a few goals;
- Recruit a 2nd (and possibly 3rd) co-leader for the organization
- Find more writers to write articles for the website
- Continue hosting public meetings
- Host monthly private meetings to discuss in-depth details of policy changes to advocate for and how to advance these policies
- Create and host public events, such as a “critical mass” bike or bus ride
- Set up informational booths at events to inform locals about our cause
- Interview and potentially endorse candidates on the city and county level
- Seek more donations to fund website costs, flyers, and other promotional activities
More broadly, the overall goal is to create a stronger Huntsville through safer streets, more mixed-use zoning, and improved transit. Some of the ways these goals can be achieved is by advocating for safer pedestrian crossing and pedestrianized streets in high pedestrian traffic areas such as around Big Spring Park, legalize ADUs and home businesses, and speeding up development of the planned BRT line along University.
Starting off January, we have a public meeting on January 3rd 11:30am at Rolo’s Cafe.
On Janurary 6th 5:30pm is 2026 Madison County Legislative Public Forum. This is an annual form that is a perfect opportunity to voice your concerns or support for issue in the county. We’ll voice our support for a county wide transit system, legalizing ADUs, and ending parking minimums.
