How you can support the future of Strong Towns Huntsville

Next month, October, will mark the 1 year anniversary of launching Strong Towns Huntsville.

Hi, its Nick Frevold, founder of the local conversation Strong Towns Huntsville. Next month, October, will mark the 1 year anniversary of launching Strong Towns Huntsville. Since the launch, we’ve gathered 100 newsletter subscribers and nearly 50 discord users. We’ve also published 30 articles and created a few resources.

Doing this takes a good deal of time and money. If we want to see Strong Towns Huntsville step up a stage, we need more support. To give your support, you can do one of the following:

  1. Write articles. These can either be opinion pieces or investigative journalism. We could really use help in writing up details about financial data (city spending, etc.) and educational materials that introduce people to new concepts (ADUs, BRT, modern city design, etc.).
  2. Organize and host events. This could be organizing a bike ride, contacting a speaker to come to a Strong Towns Huntsville meeting, organizing a town hall style event that educates people on Strong Towns concepts, etc.
  3. Donate. I can continue to do most of this work myself, but not without additional funds to pay for it. The website costs money to host and it takes a lot of time to write articles and organize events.
The goal to keep things the way they are is $110 to pay for website expenses. If you’d like to see more articles from me, including detailed investigative journalism, and more events, then donate more above the goal. If we get enough donations (and sponsorships), we could grow into a local news blog that focuses on urban news with more details than other local news outlets.Something similar to Seattle’s The Urbanist.
You can donate through ko-fi and see the progress toward the goal

If there is enough support, the long term goal would be to transition into a non-profit and create a team page.

    Hey!

I am a recent newsletter subscriber and very excited to see a Strong Towns Huntsville chapter. I personally can’t contribute anything right now, but hopefully by the new year I can donate a bit of money and possibly volunteer to write an article here or there. I absolutely want to be able to help out! It is really amazing what you’ve been able to accomplish in just the past year alone.

    Sincerely, Nicholas Briggs
